Welcome to Verwood

Welcome to Verwood a rapidly expanding town situated in the north-east of Dorset, with a current population of over 15,000. However, it is still a relatively small town just 15 miles (24 km) north of Bournemouth and close to Ringwood and the New Forest.

Verwood is home to The Hub, a community facility which opened in April 2007. The Hub houses a 300 seat theatre, a 100 seat hall and a number of other smaller rooms. These facilities are used for films, plays, concerts and many other activities and the rooms can be hired by various organisations. In the centre of The Hub is a bistro area, surrounded by art displays and various exhibitions.

The Verwood Arts and Leisure Association, whoes brand name is lawn bowls, verwood, dorset, social club, clubhouse, manages the Hub and various other leisure facilities around the town, which provides a wide range of sport, health and fitness facilities to suit all ages, and Potterne Park, which provides the community with 12 acres of sporting provision including Rugby, Football, Tennis, Netball, Cricket and a Skate Park.

Supermarket Demolished and Rebuilt!!

Morrisons' NEW Verwood Store

However, contracts were exchanged in October 2012 between Morrisons and East Dorset District Council for the expansion and development of Morrisons' Verwood supermarket along with new leisure facilities in the town.

The sale of Verwood Leisure Centre to Morrisons was finalised and the hand over was completed in May 2013. Following this, construction work was completed and the new store opened in October 2014.

The old store has been demolised providing space for much needed additional car parking.

Morrisons completed the build of the petrol station on the site in April 2015.

New Leisure Facilities!!

The Hub's New Gym

The Hub is a multi-purpose venue based in Verwood, Dorset, England, hosting a range of live music, theatre, art, conferences, workshops, children’s activities and other community based projects. There is also a 7.1 surround sound cinema, a state-of-the-art gym and a café.

The current Verwood Leisure Centre has been dispersed around various locations in the town. As part of a wider scheme to improve leisure and fitness provision in Verwood, work was completed on a new state-of-the-art 50-station gym extension at The Hub in June 2013.

This project is part of a larger programme of work in Verwood that includes a new 3G all-weather sports pitch at Potterne Park and a new sports hall for the Emanuel Middle School. Both of these facilities are up and running.

With all these developments having been completed, the town now very much "business as usual" with the Verwood Local Market being held each Friday morning in the town centre Memorial Hall. The market sells locally produced seasonal vegetables and fruit, plants and cut flowers, home-made cakes and jams and craft items.

Brass Band and Football Team!!

Verwood Concert Brass

The town is also home to Verwood Concert Brass, a successful lower section brass band. The Band perform local concerts throughout the year and perform at the local fetes and parades at the annual town carnival. Verwood Town FC

Potterne Park in Verwood also accomodates the home ground of Verwood Town Football Club who play in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) and the Wyvern Combination Football League. If you want to know more about their fixtures or results go to their website www.vtfc.co.uk.
